A chemical compound available in the form of powder called Colchicine is a major alkaloid from Colchicum autumnale L. and is also found in other Colchicum species. The primary therapeutic use of this chemical compound is in the gout treatment. It is also used in the therapy of pericarditis, familial Mediterranean fever (periodic disease), and Behets disease.
